| Over 200 out-of-state volunteers are
building a Raleigh County church
Story by Steve Ring Email | Bio
Volunteers from churches in five states are giving up
a week's vacation to build a church in Cool Ridge. And they're
wasting no time. In fact, they plan to get the building under
roof in just one week.
The volunteers are from churches in the South. They're on a
mission project to build a church for Nehemiah Baptist.
Right now, Nehemiah members literally attend church by
meeting outside under a picnic shelter.
But the out-of-state volunteers are offering their time and
energy to give the church a place to call home.
"We're meeting people from West Virginia that we've never
met before, and we draw closer to them. They become part of
our family," said Johnny Gray from Barnwell, South Carolina.
A different round of volunteers is due to arrive each week
for the next three weeks.
The goal is to have the church open in September.
And some of the volunteers are working at the Beckley
Health Right Clinic to give it a makeover.
They're painting, pressure-washing, and cutting down trees
at the clinic.
